VILLA HELLENA

Old & Rare Books

The collection of rare and old books comprises publications dating from the late 19th to the mid-20th century, reflecting the cultural, educational, and social developments of the period.

The oldest items include a German–Serbian dictionary from 1886, as well as important encyclopedic editions such as Pallas’s Great Lexicon in Hungarian, published in the late 19th century, and a publication on Torontál County from 1911.

The collection is thematically and chronologically diverse, encompassing literary works, drama, scholarly publications, and encyclopedic editions from the first half of the 20th century. A particularly valuable segment consists of handwritten church financial records and protocols dating from the early to the late 19th century.

A significant portion of the collection comes from donations by residents of Opovo from their private libraries, further emphasizing its local character and cultural continuity.
