VILLA HELLENA

Archeology

Based on archaeological finds from the territory of the Municipality of Opovo, the presence of human communities, their settlements, and cultural developments can be continuously traced from the Neolithic period (Late Stone Age) through all historical periods.

More than thirty archaeological sites and numerous individual finds testify to the rich prehistory and history of this area.

The local archaeological collection consists of artefacts from the Late Neolithic, Late Iron Age, Late Antiquity, the Middle Ages, and the Early Modern period, which were individually discovered in arable fields and wetlands (riverine floodplain areas), most often during agricultural and construction works.

In addition to archaeological objects, the collection also includes a paleontological find – a woolly mammoth tooth.
