VILLA HELLENA

Geology

The geological collection includes specimens of minerals and rocks that were collected across the territory of Serbia. It was created in cooperation with the Faculty of Mining and Geology of the University of Belgrade, with the aim of presenting geological heritage even in a community such as Opovo. Namely, Opovo and its surroundings, in a geological sense, belong to the Pannonian Basin, an area where the rich geological structure is covered by Quaternary deposits of soil, loess, and sand, making it inaccessible for direct observation.

The exhibited rocks are grouped according to their mode of formation (igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks), while the mineral collection illustrates their diversity in terms of various characteristics such as color, luster, crystal form, and more.
